Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is the best way to feed your baby. And it’s good for you, too!

Breast milk is easy for your baby to digest, which reduces the chances of spitting up and tummy discomfort. It also contains vital antibodies, which help your baby fight off infections.

Breastfeeding may help you by lowering your risk of certain breast and ovarian cancers. And it helps you lose the baby weight!

Breastfeeding is also a great way to bond with your baby. And bonding is the first step toward healthy a parent-child relationship.

But breastfeeding can be tough, especially at first. So, if you need help, lactation consultants are available by phone or through home visits.

Call 1-888-634-7900 for help. Or, for more information, visit the CDC website.

Bottle-feeding with Formula

If you choose to bottle-feed your baby, talk with your doctor first about your options. Different formulas (which may come in liquid or powder form) impact babies’ delicate digestive systems in different ways.

Whatever you do, DON’T water down formula to save money or make it last longer. This can be very dangerous to your baby.

For more information about breastfeeding or formula-feeding your baby, check out the March of Dimes website.
